I admit it. I am a dreamer. You can’t blame me for being such. What can I do? I can’t help but to dream of becoming this and that. I think that dreaming is my key to achieving what I want to do and to happen in my life.
Let’s take a sneak peek with my past and present dreams.
1. Teacher Xyla Dream
When I was kid, I used to enter a room with a mini blackboard hanged on the wall, a small desk and chair on the side and a row of chairs in front of the blackboard. And here goes the scenario… As i enter the room with my notebook, ballpen, paper and a box of chalk with me, I greet my students in a very calm voice. After a couple of minutes teaching my lesson, I always hand them a quiz and after that, I dismiss them. I check their papers and record the results in my math-notebook-turned-into-a-teacher’s-record-notebook. And when my work is done, I collect my dolls, put them back in my cabinet, and tell them, “see You tomorrow kids!” Talk about Teacher-teacher-an!!
2. Doctor De Vera Dream
I have always dreamt of becoming a doctor. One factor why I wanted to become one is I was inspired with my doctor who treated my disease a few years back. I told myself that someday, like her, I would be a great physician who will always be remembered by her patients. I don’t know If I can still fulfill that dream because of my decision of shifting from a pre-med course to a nursing course. But no one knows what will happen next, right?
3. Xyla de Vera, owner of “JerXy Bar and Restaurant“ Dream
Well, basically, I love cooking… plus eating! Hehe… I was influenced by the best cook in the whole world - my mom. The reason for this dream is just I want to let everybody know how delicious our recipes are! Mmmm.. Yummy!
4. Xyla de Vera, EIC, “Glitter Magazine” Dream
I have passion for writing.. I am creative… I want to inspire people… I want to let the confidence and self-esteem out of every readers… Well, I think I can still be considered a fashionista or stylish in my own little cheap way, right? Uhmmm.. Do I need to say more?
5. Xyla de Vera, owner of “Toink” Boutique Dream
Like what I have said, I am creative and can be considered a fashionista. Usually, when I am in a boring class, I caught myself designing and drawing different styles of clothes and gowns. I dream of having a boutique so I can see my designs for real and being worn by my customers. Since, the name XY shop has been taken, I chose TOINK because I feel like TOINK is the sound when a design or an idea pops out of my mind! Haha!
6. Xyla de Vera, chair person of the “Angels at Work Foundation” Dream
Believe it or not, this is the dream that I promised God I will fulfill in the future. I have been inspired by our home visits last semester where in I met a lot poor people. I was able to hear their stories and I was kinda guilty because of my attitude of being materialistic. I even took this course (even if it is somewhat against my will) for money’s sake since we all know that nurses are in demand and highly paid in other countries. After that experience, I talked to God and promised Him that I will help those in need as my payment for all the blessings He has given me and will give me in time. Another thing, helping poor and unfortunate people always makes my heart cry out for joy. Awww….
7. President Xyla de Vera Dream
Haha! Yes! I dreamt of becoming a president of our country too. Maybe because I want changes in our country. And I do hope that those changes will result into a progressive economy of our country. Vote Me! hehe!!
8. Atty. Xyla de Vera Dream
When I was in elementary, I dreamt of becoming a lawyer. I wanted to defend those people who are oppressed and deceived. I remember when I was little, my aunts used to tell me that I am fit for a lawyer because I know how to reason out, to fight, and to defend myself and my siblings. “Naku, Xyla, siguro magiging lawyer ka kase ang tapang mo masyado. Magaling ka at alam mo nang makipaglaban sa tamang paraan ha!”
9. Professor Xyla De Vera, RN, MAN Dream
I wanted to be a clinical instructor and I was inspired by my unjust and just professors. I told myself that I wouldn’t be like those unfair, and hypocrite professors. Because I really believe that a professor should be a model to his or her students. If that professor wants his or her students to aim high, he or she should inspire them.. not threat them or scare them away!
10. Xyla de Vera, Best Actress-Singer-Model Dream
Everybody knows that I really love performing on stage. Performing is my first love. I have always wanted to be a superstar. I imagine myself in front of millions of people, dancing, acting and singing as if it’s my last presentation. I picture myself being interviewed and asked for autographs. “And the best actress award goes to… Ms. Xyla de Vera!” As people shout out for joy and for support, I gleefully stood up from my seat, went up on stage, received my award and said, “Thank you for all your support!”
After I went down from the stage.. I saw myself again… here in this old chair… staring at the blinking cursor on the monitor. Whoa! What a dream!
