I just had my first shot of GnRH agonist a few hours ago. Instead of continuing my oral contraceptive pills (Diane35), my ob-gyne prescribed a new drug. It’s an injectible drug that will cease my menstrual cycle and will decrease the size of my cysts. Its side effects are pseudo-menopausal signs and symptoms and osteoporosis. I also read that it’s a drug for cancer patients. Sheesh.
I am gonna get shots monthly for 6 months. Do you know how much one vial costs? Only freakin’ P8000. Uhuh. You read that right. Eight thousand pesos. That’s monthly. So that means, my parents are going to spend P48,000 only for my injectible drug. My other medicines (calcium carbonate and a low dose progesterone drug - to counter the side effects of the GnRH agonist) and other diagnostic exams are not yet included there. The drug was injected in my abdomen subcutaneously. It didn’t hurt because I am already used to getting pricked by needles. I am a sickly person, that’s why. It’s just ironic because I am a nurse who takes good care of sick people yet I have this long list of diseases. Haha.
Why did I shift into a new drug? Because my cysts’ sizes increased. Surgery is not the answer at this moment because according to my ob-gyne, my cysts are quite smaller compared with the “required” size for an operation. It should be at least 7cm. My cysts are around 4-5 cm. Hay.
I’m hoping to be okay in the next few months.
Anyways, tomorrow is the first day of my final coaching in URC (Universal Review Center) in Makati. It’s a 10-day intensive review with one of the best reviewers in town. Gossshhhh. Time flies so fast. I can’t believe it’s December tomorrow already. I only have two weeks before my exam. Oh Lord… Please help me on my exam. I couldn’t say that I am well prepared because there are times that I couldn’t concentrate on reviewing because of the pain inflicted by this disease. Bad timing.
I am still being optimistic, though. I’m doing this for my parents…. and for the new cellphone they promised. Hahahaha. Kidding!
So this will be my last blog entry for the mean time. I’ll try to blog after my exam… or after I receive the results. I hope it says, “Congratulations. You passed the NCLEX!”
