I remember watching this certain portion in 24 Oras where they featured a woman with Tourette Syndrome. I just pity her that much because people laugh or make fun of her. I am actually looking for a video clip of that news program (where in they featured the woman) to show you what Tourette syndrome is like but I stumbled upon a funny scene from Deuce Bigalow.
A perfect example of Tourette Syndrome (on a funny side though).
According to our favorite Wikipedia, TS is an inherited neurological disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by the presence of multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic; these tics characteristically wax and wane.I remember this one neighbor we have who has this kind of disorder too. My parents told us that he was epileptic so I thought epileptics were like that - they “shake” every now and then. But I had this classmate when I was in 2nd year college that has an epilepsy. I was confused because he isn’t “shaking” every 15 seconds. I asked him when does it happen. He told me that there are some triggering factors that leads him to seizures.
It was only last year when I was reviewing for board exam when I realized what my neighbor was experiencing. It was Tourette Syndrome. I wonder why I didn’t encounter that disorder when I was in college. Was I sleeping then? Hehe.Okay. So I’m not gonna be like lecturing about Tourette. I just want to give you an idea about it. As far as I know, there’s no treatment for this except if the tics are disrupting the daily routines of the person. I wonder how this people sleep? Do they also have sleep deprivation?
Now, I blogged about this to tell you that if there are some weird habits with a person or either deviations from their physical appearance, we should not laugh at them, bully them or make fun of them. Be thankful that you are NORMAL. Be thankful that you can live your own life the way you want it to be. Instead of doing those crap at them, we should give support either medical, financial or emotional support to these people because you don’t know how these people suffer from their diseases. If you want to be a doctor or a nurse, you shouldn’t be doing it just because you want to earn big time. Always be empathic. And that will make you a great medical professional someday.
I wish the woman I saw in 24 Oras will be given a medical attention. Let’s pray for these people.
