June 9, 2007 is a memorable date for me. This is the day when Lunatic Forum, my own online community, was reborn. Although I made LF two years ago, it was only last year when it started to go on its way to success. My forum is not as big as the other forums online but I am really, really proud of it and the members I call, loonies.
It was March 2006 when I started conceptualizing about Lunatic Forum. I actually put up my first forum when I was in third year college. Its name was Raved Forum but since I got busy in school, I kind of neglected it and the server just went down. So two years ago, I thought of bringing that forum back again but this time, with a new name. I called it Lunatic Forum because first, I love Psychiatric Nursing and I want to use the psychiatric disorders I was reviewing that time as forum ranks and positions. Second, I believe that we usually unleash our insanities when we are with our true friends or best friends. The reason why I like administrating a forum is because I want to meet more new friends online, to help people in the best way I could and to have a place in the cyber world which I can call my home.
I don’t think LF would have made it this far if not because of Grace, my not-just-an-online best friend. She was the one who presented to buy a domain and web space for my forum because LF kept on having errors in some free sites. (FYI, LF’s current server is our 6th. HAHAHA!) I was really touched about her concern for me and for the forum. After a number of ways of insisting me, I finally said yes. Hehe. Then exactly one year ago, Lunatic Forum got its own domain and web space in the online world. That’s why we are officially celebrating its birthday-slash-anniversary on this date.
People say that “it’s just a forum” but for me, it’s not. As I have said, I have found my home in this online community. I found my TRUE friends and I got closer with my other online friends from other forums through this Lunatic. I did not know that LF would make such a big impact in my life. Now, I could say that LF is part of my life and my system.
As an administrator, I experienced being criticized about the way I handle it. I do accept all those constructive criticisms because I know that it will help me to improve my leadership skills. And I am very thankful that despite all those things that have happened that tried to bring me down, I have remained a strong leader. I believe that a good leader is also a good listener. That is why whenever people in my forum give suggestions, I take it into consideration. I always do everything to reach out to my “subordinates” because I know that my members also contributed something in my forum’s success. I am not the best leader I could think of but I guess, I can say that I am an improved leader ever since Lunatic was reborn. I really owe it to this online community.
To everyone who has been part of Lunatic Forum - whether you were banned/suspended or you left - and who remained loyal, THANK YOU. I wish that someday, somewhere, I would be able to meet each loonies that became part of and touched my life.
