Dealing with the MD's
You know what I hate in the nursing world? It’s not the hectic schedule nor the night duties that cause me to have zits every now and then. It’s dealing with the snob and air head doctors.
Grrr.
I was assigned in PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) last week. I was so happy because I really love working in the intensive care unit. I always gain knowledge every exposure in the ICU. I just got pissed when a doctor saw me inside the PICU and said, “Who is she? What is she doing here? Diba I told you not to assign trainees here?!” Wtf. I felt humiliated.
I encountered a number of doctors who are really snob but I am thankful that there are still doctors who are very accommodating and friendly.
I was wondering, haven’t they undergone training when they were still junior interns or students? How will we, trainees, learn if they kept on assigning us to do vital signs? Wtf. Vital signs. I can do that even with my eyes closed! We want action. We want challenge. If you, doctors, want to work with competitive nurses, you should give us the chance to handle cases we haven’t handled before. You should teach us and give us the inspiration to do our best and not scare us away every time we assist you.
If only I have pursued my dream to be a doctor, I assure you that I will treat the nurses and the patients right.
Sorry for the rant. Sorry! Teehee!
On the lighter note, I just want to announce that I won in the People’s Choice category in the 2008 Candy Teen Blog Awards. =) Thank you for supporting me. I really owe it to you guys. *hugsssss*
I have a new haircut, by the way. I am back to my short short hair. LOL. It’s still a bob cut but it’s shorter than my usual bob.

My name is Xyla, a 24-year-old Filipina unemployed registered nurse. I am a freelance writer for a nursing magazine of a review center. I aim to be a nurse leader in the future. With only 12 units left in my Master's Degree (Major in Medical-Surgical Nursing), I am ready to teach nursing students. During my past time, I kill Zombies, plant Cherry Bombs, Marigold and Melon Pult and make cheesy stuff for my boyfriend. I firmly justify that I am not too old for Glee-addiction. I hate prepositions. They make my life complicated.

Congrats ate! Paburger ka naman! Burger! Burger! XD
Yan din ang problema ng ibang nurses. Minsan nga daw, mali yung ginagawa ng doctor tapos tatamain ng nurse, di man papakinggan. =P

Congratulations Xyla! :)

Korekkkkk! Tsk tsk.
Thanks. Wala akong burger. Hahaha!

Same kayo ni mommy. Nagkakaroon din siya ng problem with some of the doctors in the hospital she’s working in.
I guess hindi talaga maiiwasan yung ganyan. :(

Xyla! CONGRATS!!! Actually I’ve always had a strong feeling that you’d win. Di ko lang sinasabi sa’yo kasi I don’t like getting other people’s hopes up hangga’t hindi pa sure. Pero alam mo naman that I was rooting for you all the way =)
About that doctor… Ugh! How condescending can you get? And you’re right? How can they turn you trainees into skilled nurses if they only let you do the easy, no-brainer stuff? And doctors will always need nurses, whether they acknowledge it or not. Kahit nga andun kayo haggard pa rin sila. What more kung wala?
There was even this episode in Grey’s Anatomy where all the nurses went on a strike because they wanted a wage hike. The head of the hospital knew there was enough money to pay them, but he was hesitant because he was saving to buy state of the art equipment for the hospital.
Finally after so many days, one of his colleagues told him, “We need them.”
And when he reasoned that the money was for the equipment, she answered, “Okay. If your state of the art equipment (sorry, nakalimutan ko kung ano talaga ang tawag) can run this hospital, even without the nurses, then so be it.”
In the end he decided to give in to their demands.
Yuck! Siyempre nag-share ako dito ng pagkahaba-haba. And about your frustrated dream of becoming a doctor, just in case you still want to become one, it’s never too late, you know. You’re still young.
Anyhow, its great that you’re finally pursuing something you love. I really admire the fact that you quit your job for this.
Congrats ulit! You deserve it =)

Congratulations! You deserved it ;)
Yeah I’ve heard of doctors like that. I mean, most doctors (from what I’ve heard) are actually really nice and understanding but some are just pompous douchebags. Oh well… at least I know I won’t be like that. :P
Your hair looks so cute! I keep telling my friends that if only my hair didn’t hate me so much, it would be short just like yours.
