Backer, where art thou?
For the past few months, I have been really bitter with staff nurses who got in easily because of their backers. I hate the fact that it’s really happening in our society. It’s really WHO you know that matters nowadays. But when I was given the chance to volunteer in a public hospital, I learned to accept the reality – you can get hired easily without a single drop of sweat when you have a backer.
So, right now… I am on a backer hunting instead of job hunting. Just kidding! Haha! I still job hunt. It sucks that every time a hospital gives me a chance to get an experience through a volunteer or training program, there’s always this you-should-get-a-backer-now thing going on inside the institution. That’s the reason why no matter how hardworking I am during my duty days, I still don’t succeed in getting hired. No matter how good my evaluation is, it is always disregarded. It’s really unfair because there are other nurses who are more deserving of those positions. Yes, I’m getting bitter again but I’ll tell you where these are all coming from…
There are staff nurses who are not being effective and efficient with their work. They reason out that they can’t do the ideal procedure anymore because they lack time and they have so many patients to attend to. I understand that but is their reasoning really acceptable? You know the saying, “if there’s a will, there’s a way.” Hello, miss and mister nurses? Your patients are not animals. They are human beings like you who feel pain, who suffer from pain… Don’t reason out that they are not paying you for what you are doing… Actually, they are paying you through their taxes. Let’s say they don’t pay the taxes… But if you were in their shoes… What would you feel?
It’s disappointing that those who got their jobs easily are the ones who take advantage of their luck. I hope that they prove their backers that they deserve their position by doing what is right even if the working place is not as ideal as what we are expecting.

My name is Xyla, a 24-year-old Filipina unemployed registered nurse. I am a freelance writer for a nursing magazine of a review center. I aim to be a nurse leader in the future. With only 12 units left in my Master's Degree (Major in Medical-Surgical Nursing), I am ready to teach nursing students. During my past time, I kill Zombies, plant Cherry Bombs, Marigold and Melon Pult and make cheesy stuff for my boyfriend. I firmly justify that I am not too old for Glee-addiction. I hate prepositions. They make my life complicated.

Its unfair. =|

kahit naman saan ganyan na eh… :( kung wala ka kilala from the company wala talagang chance… pero mas matindi sa hospital… :(
I still hope though na someday darating yung time na may makakaappreciate ng effort ng taong nagwwork hard… ^^

Ganyan na talaga ngayon, importante may backer. I admit that my sister got accepted at PGH as a resident dahil malakas ang backer niya, ayoko na i-mention kung sino at ano siya sa society, pero yung sister ko, hindi siya tulad ng iba na nagtake advantage. She really deserved it naman eh.

Oops, I meant PCMC, not PGH. Pero nakapasok siya sa PGH even without the help of a backer.

Alam mo I super agree with you. This happened to my co-teacher. She was fired because according to the admin, she doesn’t know how to discipline students. Then my other co-teacher, meron siyang tita na madre, and marami siyang narereceive na complains from students most especially from parent, he was retained! Badtrip diba?

this is SO TRUE. the reality now in hiring: your grades, your school, your skills isn’t prioritized anymore. kailangan talaga may BACKER. what a shame. i feel you.

i agree with this. it’s frustrating to hear some got hired because he/she has connections blah blah… kelangan ba talaga sumipsip sa mga nakatataas?? plus the fact that you were a graduate of this school i.e if you graduated at a certain school with a base hospital, and passed your application, you will be a priority.
